Flashback: The Remake - Collaborative project

backdrop.png

'Flashback: The Remake' is an electrifying third-person 3D action-adventure that combines elements of science-fiction and puzzles. You'll step into the role of agent Conrad B. Hart, equipped with a remarkable device capable of both teleportation and generating Electromagnetic Pulses.

MECHANICS

Through the gameplay, the player will make use of a device of advanced technology.  The player can aim
and throw this device in an arc which will cause it to stick to a valid surface
where one of two actions may be executed.
The first and primary function is the Teleporter.
When the device is on a valid surface, the player can activate it in order to
directly transform their present location to that of the device.
The secondary function is the Electromagnetic Pulse.
Once activated near an electrical source, the EMP will cause this object to switch state for a short duration.

NAVIGATION

When working on 'Flashback: The Remake', I took part in inspiration and reference research. I took a closer look at the video game 'Control' to draw inspiration for ambiance and architectural structure and also player navigation methods. Drawing from the brilliant concept of using simple yet effective environmental cues, I introduced a collection of bright yellow cloths strategically placed throughout the game's environment.
These yellow cloths serve as dynamic waypoint markers, guiding players with visual cues on where to go next.
It helps players seamlessly immerse themselves in the game world, eliminating the need for intrusive HUD elements or excessive handholding.

LEVEL DESIGN

In addition to my role as Game Designer, I also acted as a Level Designer for this project. I therefore not only contributed to shaping the overall vision and mechanics of the game but also took charge of laying out and designing the environment that makes up the second half of the game. This included planning, blockouts, final layout, lighting and GPE integration.
